About this artwork
Taken from a series and colour studies made around my local area in Derbyshire- this piece depicts the view towards the village of Repton across the Trent Valley towards the North and the Derbyshire dales. Unusually for me, colours are more muted here. A bright day is often preferred for good light and shadows, but here I aimed to explore a different kind of atmosphere, made from a overcast day but still featuring elements of perspective and depth.

« My artworks echo my love and appreciation to the fundamental elements of painting, but also seek to resonate with the suggested beauty of place. »
Tom Voyce is an established UK painter with international exposure. His subject matter comprises of a variety of different themes such as airports, railway stations, roads and bridges and other places of transit. Voyce's compositions consistently demonstrate an interest in the formal elements of composition: structure, perspective, shape and light. His paintings are accounts of fleeting moments within a landscape; the fall of light on a building, or the shadows cast by a motorway flyover. The strength in these pieces lies not in their faithful depiction of a landscape, but in their suggestion of a sense of place, of being present within a particular space at a particular moment.
