About this artwork
The Rider's Dream explores the relationship between innocence and chaos through the image of a child riding a wild bull. This scene functions as a metaphor for how, at certain stages of life, we go through complex moments without being fully aware of their magnitude. The bull represents those unpredictable, sometimes violent, blows that existence imposes upon us. The child, a symbol of imagination, lightness, and an unconscious courage, surrenders… to the experience with a trust born not of knowledge, but of purity.
I'm interested in how a child's perspective can act as an emotional shield against harsh realities. Through a warm palette, expressive gestures, and stark contrasts, the work proposes a reflection on resilience, perception, and how fantasy can function as a tool for emotional survival.
This piece is part of a series where I investigate the intersection between the symbolic and the emotional, in scenes that, although they originate
Tomas David is a self-taught painter with a background in medicine who uses oil, acrylic, spray paint, and pastel on large canvases to create striking works. His techniques fuse the rigor of classical figurative painting with raw gestures and textures characteristic of urban art, reinterpreting canonical compositions with a contemporary and disruptive energy. His works convey a vibrant tension between order and chaos, inviting the viewer to experience the urgency and fragility of the moment before collapse, where there is still something to see and save.
