About this artwork
This started off as a polyester plate lithograph Watson made from a photo he took of a man standing by the Ganges in Rishikesh, India drinking chai. He used this as the base for a very large painting which sold immediately that was 200x150cm.
In this picture you can see the squaring-up technique used in order to quickly and accurately enlarge a picture. The original lithograph was monochromatic and the colours were added one by one using acetate… sheets and cardboard cut out shapes, each odour requiring a run through the etching press. The colour is oil paint and the squared up lines are chaparral, drawn on after the image had dried. This was the piece He used for the large painting.
