About this artwork
The work is a portrait of a man I met in Tompkins Square Park in New York. The focus of my work is people – especially their portraits. In my series “Faces of Life” I capture a moment in people’s lives with oil paintings. Traces of life, emotions and characteristics become visible in their faces. One would like to find out more about the lives of the people portrayed, which shaped their faces. Every picture tells a story. The most important thing…
is not the true story of the respective motif, but rather the connection to the personal story of the viewer. This creates an interaction between the painting and the viewer. Emotions are addressed. It is often the direct gaze of the person portrayed and the large format of the canvas that create closeness for the viewer and make them return their gaze. It often happens that visitors find their very special painting in an exhibition.
