About this artwork
Mare Nostrum XV, is part of the Mare Nostrum series, which gets its name from how the ancient Romans called the Mediterranean Sea. The work was part of the exhibition that MURAM dedicated to the artist in 2018.
In this painting, water is the only protagonist, shown to the viewer through a sea in greenish tones, in which a somewhat agitated surface can be appreciated. The particularity of these paintings is the working technique used. The procedure… used is oil paint, but this has been subjected to a continuous process of construction and deconstruction through varnishes, thinners and oils. So that from afar, the paintings give an aspect of a realistic painting and yet, when observed closely, they practically become abstract paintings as a consequence of the amount of textures and nuances that can be appreciated in the work. In this way, the work is shown to change depending on the distance at which the viewer observes it.
