About this artwork
Caldera is a large abstract landscape oil painting diptych (on two canvases). Completed during lockdown in the Spring of 2020, it reflects the artist's feelings about climate emergency and the response of Mother Earth to man's activities on the planet.
Energetic brushwork and a bold yet harmonious palette of rich earth tones and boiling hot reds reinforce the sense of a volcanic explosion with tremendous force coming up from the centre of the earth.… Red hot sprays of Iava and white hot ash spew forth over the landscape, and in emphasising the fire element, and the power she has, the artist gives voice to the Earth Mother, so she may claim our attention. She can no longer be denied or ignored.

Trudy Montgomery is an experienced British painter who has exhibited her work nationally. She initially worked in the Silicon Valley tech world before moving to San Francisco to embrace her passion for visual art. Now living back in her home country of England, she composes abstract expressionist inner landscapes, exploring themes related to spirituality and the female experience such as the earth's energy, pregnancy and the Divine Feminine. Montgomery's paintings ultimately display calming color combinations and a soulful spirit of self.
