I created this piece as a reflection of how small we sometimes feel when life’s storms rise around us.
The ship is me, or anyone who’s ever felt outnumbered by the size of their own struggle. The waves are immense, almost alive, curling with both fury and grace, while the light breaking through the clouds reminds me that even in the darkest hour, there’s always a direction forward.
The birds flying across the sun became symbols of hope as I worked… on the sky. They’re small, almost unnoticeable, yet they move freely through the storm. I think of them as courage made visible. This work isn’t just about survival it’s about the quiet strength that comes when you choose to keep steering, even when the sea feels endless.
Uchenna Obinabo-Mabazza, founder of the Mabazza Foundation, is a visual conceptual artist whose work bridges digital creation and classical craftsmanship. Working across mediums, he produces both original oil paintings developed in collaboration with traditional painters and fine-art prints derived from his digital compositions. Drawing from personal experience and universal themes, his art blends sculptural chiaroscuro with expressive color to explore resilience, identity, and healing. Through digital portraiture, hand-painted interpretations, and conceptual works, he creates emotionally resonant pieces marked by quiet intensity and reflective depth. Each piece invites viewers into a space of honesty and restoration, rooted in personal truth and a broader commitment to uplifting others. Through the Mabazza Foundation, his art supports cancer survivors and communities in need, transforming creative expression into a pathway for compassion and connection.
