About this artwork
This oil painting depicts the Hochvogel, a majestic mountain in the Allgäu Alps whose summit will soon break apart. A huge crack in the summit continues to grow. In this painting, I created a tranquil, almost meditative atmosphere that immerses the viewer in the majesty of the mountains.
Ulrike Hüppeler primarily works in oil on canvas, combining academic knowledge of botany with her lifelong passion for art. Her works combine detailed, sometimes photorealistic techniques, inspired by old masters, with impasto paint application and glazed layers, exploring themes at the interface between nature and society. With subtle irony and keen observation, she conveys the tension between a longing for originality, human control, and alienation—always accompanied by hope and childlike curiosity, inviting viewers to wonder and responsibility.
