About this artwork
The Three Peaks shine in the clear evening light, majestic and seemingly untouched. But in the foreground, a rusty ski gondola speaks of a time gone by.
In this work, I combined the dramatic power of nature with the decay of human remains. The oil brings to life the depth of detail of the rock formation and the weathered rust texture of the wreck. I wanted to capture the tension between timeless nature and ephemeral technology, evoking a mixture… of awe and melancholy in the viewer. It brings a powerful, contemplative energy to any space.
Ulrike Hüppeler primarily works in oil on canvas, combining academic knowledge of botany with her lifelong passion for art. Her works combine detailed, sometimes photorealistic techniques, inspired by old masters, with impasto paint application and glazed layers, exploring themes at the interface between nature and society. With subtle irony and keen observation, she conveys the tension between a longing for originality, human control, and alienation—always accompanied by hope and childlike curiosity, inviting viewers to wonder and responsibility.
