In Reflected Fire, water becomes a meeting point between opposing forces.
The intense red of the horizon and the warmth of the setting sun are reflected into a cool, moving expanse of blue. The reflection is fragmented by the movement of the sea, suggesting that light is never simply reproduced – it is altered by what receives it.
This is central to my ongoing Water Reflections series. I am interested in water not only as a landscape, but as a… shifting surface through which colour, light and perception are transformed.
The contrast in Reflected Fire is deliberately strong: fire against water, warmth against coolness, stillness against movement. Yet these opposites do not compete. They coexist within the same moment.
The painting invites the viewer to pause between these states and observe how a single source of light can take on an entirely different character once it is reflected.
