About this artwork
I painted the picture in my garden on a warm July day, after a series of representational plein air studies had been created in the weeks before. I reduced the colors and shapes of the garden landscape to the essentials and worked with expressive, strong brushstrokes. The picture brings peace and liveliness to a room and invites you to dream. The picture support is made of coarse jute, hand-stretched and primed four times. The edges of the stretcher…

Ute Meyer is a German artist whose work has been recognized nationally and internationally, including in Denmark and the USA. She prefers to work outdoors and uses classic techniques of oil and watercolor painting. Her creative process is strongly influenced by changing weather conditions and lighting, which can either speed up or slow down her painting flow. She captures the special mood of the day in her pictures.
