About this artwork
I observed these puffins on the Shetland Islands. The picture was taken a few months later based on my photographic notes in the studio. The seabirds with their bright orange beaks and their black and white plumage sit on a light green and ocher grassy area, next to them the muted pink of faded beach carnations. On the left of the picture the gray sea shimmers. The oil paint is applied three-dimensionally and expressively using palette knives to…
highlight the structures of the plumage and vegetation. The image appears peaceful and powerful. The birds with their colorful, contrasting appearance evoke a slight smile. The canvas is hand-stretched and primed four times. The picture suspension consists of a steel cable. The edges are painted. The picture can be hung without framing. The signature is on the front.

« I prefer to paint outside. Wind, light, and air can be felt in my pictures. »
My artistic practice is based on direct observation and a deep connection with the natural world. I work primarily with oil and watercolor paints and am drawn to painting outdoors, where the ever-changing qualities of light, atmosphere, and weather become active participants in the creative process. These shifting conditions influence not only the visual character of each work but also its rhythm, energy, and emotional resonance, making each painting a unique response to a specific period within a day.
In addition to plein air painting, I develop works inspired by my own photographs and everyday experiences. Instead of documenting reality, I transform these impressions into compositions that move between abstraction and figuration, exploring the balance between memory, perception, and emotion.
