About this artwork
Abstract or realistic? This question is not easily answered when viewing Katrin Reber's paintings. The harmonious works, executed in soft pastel tones, are reminiscent of imaginative cloudscapes. Upon closer inspection, however, the boundaries with abstract painting become blurred. The composition appears random, and often the thickly applied paint, created with a palette knife, stands in stark contrast to the harmonious color gradients that dominate… the overall image. Katrin Reber deliberately incorporates realistic elements such as trees or birds, which ultimately forge a strong connection between abstraction and realism.
Uwe Reber is a self-taught artist who works with colored pencils, pastels, watercolors, markers, ink, and pencil, focusing on portraiture. He combines photorealistic detail with impressionistic elements by applying color in layers and frequently using black grounds for intense contrast.
For several years, Reber has been painting Star Wars illustrations officially approved by the licensor and rights holder Lucasfilm/Walt Disney Company. Many of his Star Wars paintings have been published on the cover variant of the Official Star Wars Magazine in Germany. Reber has also created various official works for Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc., the licensee of the fictional character TARZAN. This includes a series of portraits of actors Ron Ely, Denny Miller, and Johnny Weissmuller.
Uwe Reber's pictures can be found in numerous collections, especially in the USA and Germany.
