About this artwork
In this piece, I reflect on the quiet presence of Karahunj — the ancient Armenian megalithic site that continues to inspire my work. I was drawn to the timeless stillness of a single pierced stone, and painted it as both an object and a symbol. Through the round opening, the viewer is invited to look outward — into sky and space — but also inward, into memory.
What fascinates me is the coexistence of ancient matter and contemporary presence. On… the surface of the stone, I’ve embedded a faint silhouette of a modern city — a fragile echo of the present layered onto the permanence of time.
The work was created using acrylic, watercolor, gouache, and pen on paper, allowing me to build up subtle textures and layers that evoke erosion, history, and stillness.
