On August 30, 1848, the foundation stone was laid in the foundation of the future bridge. All metal beams for construction were made in Birmingham, England. From there they were transported through Liverpool on 16 vessels to Odessa, and then sent to Kiev by oxen.
The structure was unique: the world's first six-span bridge over a pond of this size! Built in the style of English Gothic, it became the hallmark of the city.
