Doves Diptych consists of two different sized wooden-panels 40 x 30 x 10 cm and 50 x 30 x 6 cm. The work has a unique finishing with its composition combining both heavy-textured painting and transferred photography partially onto one of the wood panels. A group of doves eating breadcrumbs in the early morning in the old town square of Gouda took my attention. The camera captured the doves fighting for food.
The painting is build with a diversity… of textures, water flowing and washing effects. The colours are calm and greyish like the colour of the doves. The sides of the panels are painted in different colours. Acrylic and mixed media finished with a glaze of UV varnish to protect against sunlight.

Vania Bouwmeester Pentcheva is an established Bulgarian artist based in the Netherlands who has exhibited her work nationally, as well as in South Africa. Moved and inspired by nature, including its presence in urban landscapes, she explores her emotions, memories and philosophical thoughts through the composition of abstract paintings full of dynamic shapes and colours. Textures and colours spontaneously arrive on the canvas, though structured layering is carefully thought out.
