About this artwork
Lelya is among the brightest - and most enigmatic - figures of Belarusian myth. Her name is bound to the earth’s awakening, to first love, and to the beginning of life’s eternal cycle. She appears as a young maiden - tall, radiant, clad in white, crowned with wildflowers - arriving with the thaw, when snow dissolves and the forest draws its first new breath.
Honored as a gentle guardian of young women, Lelya was believed to gift them wreaths each… spring - tokens of purity, hope, and renewal - kept through the year as charms of protection. In her image lives the idea of time unbroken, of life returning after winter’s sleep.
She is no goddess of power or war. Her strength lies in quiet inevitability - the tender force of renewal. Lelya dwells in the threshold: between cold and warmth, childhood and becoming, solitude and love. In this fleeting balance, she becomes the very essence of spring - fragile, luminous, and unstoppable.
« The sincerity of expression and the confidence of an artist in what they do remains paramount. »
