This traditionally hand printed print was inspired by my love of all botanicals, especially mushrooms because I am intrigued by their lifecycle, amazing shapes, sizes, patterns and how so many different species exist and are also metamorphic in their growth, from spores to fully grown mushrooms. I wanted to depict some of these features into creating this carving/ print. So, it has mushroom gills, shapes and unique lines, textures, carved markings… and I created the background to be textured as well while I rolled the ink onto the block, using a lighter thickness of black ink. When the print was dry I decided to paint areas with red and a teal blue to create a bold appearance, to be noticed by viewers just like we notice mushrooms in the forest!
