About this artwork
Forms and figures that I have used as templates are repeated again and again in this multi-layered work. What is striking is that these are never dominant in the scene, but merely support the overall work. I apply paint intuitively, layer by layer, until I instinctively achieve the desired result. In this way, I build up the picture in many layers and want each painting to tell a story, so each layer of paint adds a new chapter and invites a dialogue…
with the previous one. The creative process is a balance between intuitive tracing on the canvas and careful consideration. I am inspired by the structures and stories that we all encounter every day.
As with all abstract paintings, it is up to the viewer to interpret them.
