About this artwork
I remember that day very clearly, even though I don’t know what year it was. I was quite upset about my not-working relationship when I decided to go for a walk. I took my big sketchbook with me.
It was a sunny day, and all I wanted was to forget everything around me. And I did.
For several sweet hours, I sat there on the bench by the Main River. The sun was shining on me, tourists passed by, probably taking pictures of the crazy woman drawing, but… I didn’t see anyone. Only Marienberg, the Nikolaus Chapel, and the river.
Hours later, when I finally looked up, the summer sun had disappeared behind the horizon. It was getting dark as I finished the last strokes.
I love this drawing very dearly — the moment of stillness, the plain sheet of paper on which I drew for hours. Nothing fancy. Just a quiet moment on simple paper and a magnificent architectural view.
