About this artwork
Drawing an analogy with gonzo journalism, where the reporter doesn’t just report events but actively participates in them, I call my "Framing" series 'erotic gonzo photography'. No professional models were used; I captured the majority of these shots during my personal life over a span of 20 to 30 years.
Later, I decided to frame them, but not in the usual way. I worked backward, starting from the end and moving to the beginning: I collected vintage… frames, and for each one, I searched my analogue and digital archive for a suitable photograph to create a work specifically designed and digitally manipulated for that particular frame.
Thus, I framed not the photograph itself, but your perception of it. This is why each piece in "Framing" has two dates: the year the picture was taken and the year it was framed.
N.B. The Framing works and their frames are one-of-one originals. The frames, aged and marked by time, bear traces of their past.
Veselin Borishev, a Bulgarian-born photographer and graduate of Sofia’s National High School of Fine Arts, is renowned for his compelling fine art and photojournalistic work. His artistry seamlessly transitions between traditional film and digital photography, utilizing both black-and-white and color to explore varied, always conceptual themes. Rejecting stylistic boundaries, he engages in constant experimentation. His images convey a raw honesty, often brutally sincere, evoking deep personal reflection and a powerful emotional resonance in the viewer.
