About this artwork
I created this piece to celebrate the timeless elegance of Charles Holden’s 1920s and 1930s Art Deco London stations, using geometric lines and minimalist shapes. Digitally crafted, it captures vintage charm with a modern twist.
Each station bursts with bold geometry, strong brick façades and striking ticket halls that defined a new era of London design.
The poster brings together 15 of Holden’s most recognisable stations, including Acton Town,… Arnos Grove, Balham, Boston Manor, Bounds Green and Cockfosters, highlighting the optimism and architectural confidence of the interwar period, serving lines including the Piccadilly, Northern, District and Metropolitan.
This artwork fills your space with a sense of historic rhythm and urban energy, inviting you to connect with London’s design heritage every day.
These landmarks and their stories have also inspired my forthcoming book with Amberley Publishing, If Buildings Could Speak.
Vicky Vaughan is a UK-based digital artist with a background in architectural illustration and over 20 years’ experience in branding and visual communication. She employs a distilled Art Deco style, emphasizing symmetry, clean lines and bold, uplifting compositions while idealising and emotionally strengthening her subjects. Her technique often removes visual clutter and incorporates narrative elements, such as classic cars or pioneering women, transforming architecture into vivid, story-rich poster art. Through her vibrant palettes and evocative storytelling, her work radiates optimism, curiosity, and a profound sense of pride in heritage.
