About this artwork
I painted this scene to capture the pure joy and vibrant energy of a memorable trip to the Tuscan countryside. I was struck by a moment amidst a vast field of poppies, where the world exploded with color: intense red petals against endless green and gold hills, under that incredible blue sky with dramatic clouds.
I wanted to translate that visceral experience. The thick impasto for the poppies conveys the tactile sensation of being surrounded by… them. The cypress trees are iconic sentinels of Tuscany, grounding the composition. The distant villa whispers of history and human stories.
Ultimately, I painted this to share a piece of that idyllic memory—the warm sun, the earthy scent, and the breathtaking beauty. I hope it brings a bit of that same peace and vibrant happiness to the viewer.
