About this artwork
Title: Foundation
A wall sculpture dedicated to the universal language of colour. The colour wheel first appeared in Sir Isaac Newton's book 'Optiks' in 1709, although the concept of a colour spectrum has existed before this time.
Our associations with the colour spectrum now are multi faceted. Something that has never changed when viewing the spectrum is a sense of wonder and joy.
I have played with placement of the colours and with the sculptural… form of the 'wheel'. The piece has an engaging vibrancy.
This piece measures:
Height: 27 1/2 inches (70cm)
Width: 27 1/2 inches (70cm)
Depth: 1/2 inch (1.5cm)
A single recessed keyhole slot is installed on the back, so the piece is ready to hang with just one screw in a wall. The keyhole hanging method also allows the piece to hang flush and secure to the wall.
I have signed and dated the artwork on the back.

« Find the center of your niche and build a bubble around it. Let the light in and out. »
Vince Smith is an experienced sculptor based in the United Kingdom whose works have been exhibited in England. He cites "anti-painting" as being at the core of his artistic practice, as his vibrant sculptural pieces can be hung vertically. Smith is fascinated by the many possibilities in varying depth and overall shape, particularly when set against the "very stayed practice of painting on a square". He primarily creates with wood and acrylics.
