About this artwork
For this diptych, I was inspired by a photograph I had taken of a homeless man. I chose to represent him vertically, rather than horizontally as he was. Since it's a diptych, the work can be conceived with the figure's head either upright or upside down. I can't decide. I chose to place this figure in resonance, or perhaps in a kind of mise en abyme, with a collage of fragments of advertising posters.
The overall atmosphere of the image is both… intriguing and slightly unsettling. The man's precarious position, combined with the chaotic texture of the background, creates a feeling somewhere between vulnerability, contemplation, and the pain of marginalization.
