About this artwork
In this “southern landscape” series, the artist Vincent Gabin ventures into other spaces. Here the format highlights the red “collage-stripe” which fills almost all of this painting. Horizon blocked, dead end? This plastic research has no other goals than to offer a different perspective on our own horizon.
According to Frédéric METTE, director of the “Art and freedom of Charenton” center: "the light of seaside and cliffs recall the studies of… the impressionists in this southern region, the palette being brighter here at Vincent GABIN in“ southern landscapes ” . He synthesizes the subject in colorful relationships and large areas, pure contrasts of ultramarine blue and orange. Indigo blue trees cross the space in a simplified graphic. The sky is treated in vertical lines like drips. in works of Fauvism favoring the expression of color and the structuring of space ”.
« The work of art is an idea that is exaggerated. -André Gide »
Vincent Gabin is a French artist whose paintings have been featured in several solo and group exhibitions nationally. He describes his art as not containing any central themes, only that of self-discovery, and a "letting go" that must be maintained. Gabin's vibrant landscapes recall the search for a lost garden, referring to the sale of his family property. He believes, that everyone, somehow, will find their lost gardens.
