About this artwork
This painting is inspired by the very famous Guernica by Pablo Picasso.
The artist was marked by this painting during his schooling and found it many years later and wanted to paint his own version.
Guernica represents the terrible civil war of 1937 in Spain and the artist has taken up this theme to represent the year 2020 in the United States and also a little in the world.
In this new painting by Virginia Valere, there are no human beings represented… but only hands appearing to come out of the earth and seeking oxygen.
There is anger, a lot of energy and hope in this painting.
« I love primary colours because they are fresh and don’t hide behind shadows. I love their energy. »
Virginia Valère is a French painter, sculptor and photographer based in Miami, who has exhibited her work internationally. Harnessing diverse cultural and artistic influences, including the pop art movement, she composes works that explode with color, shape and life. Her creative process is impulsive and fast-paced, and her resulting pieces reflect this nature: spontaneous, expressive and kaleidoscopic in both form and content.
