About this artwork

Fusioning Wayne Sleeth's trademark 'shorthand' ( since 2015) for waterlily (Nympheas) compositions inspired by Claude Monet's work and gardens in Giverny, here Sleeth has temporised the timeless subject by pushing contemporary techniques ( collage of photocopied drawings, torn posters, spraypaint dripping and markerpen graffiti...) to their limit. The overall colour-scheme of blues and yellows is a signal for Ukraine, this painting executed during… the first weeks of the conflict there, a contradiction of what is normally an idyllic, peaceful subject - water, waterlilies, nature. Slava Nymphea. Slava Ukraini.
A PERCENTAGE OF THE SALE WILL BE PAID BY THE ARTIST TO A CHILDREN'S CHARITY CARING FOR UKRAINIAN YOUNGSTERS.
In march 2022,Sleeth successfully auctioned 2 paintings for a charity to help Ukraine, through the DEF ( Disaster Emergency Fund ). The artist promises to contribute a sum of money to the same foundation ( supported by the British government ) when this painting is sold.
