I love stories. I remember hearing a story about Pablo Picasso. An art patron had recognized Picasso in a cafe. The patron asked Picasso if he would draw his portrait. Picasso drew the patron's portrait on a paper napkin. When the patron asked if he could have the napkin, Picasso then told the patron what it would cost him to purchase that drawing. The surprised patron said, "It's only a cafe napkin and you only spent a few minutes drawing on it."…
To which Picasso replied, "It's not about what I drew with, or on, or how long it took. It's about how long it took me to develop the skill to create this." While viewing my figurative pieces it helps to keep in mind that hundreds of drawings were drawn and thousands of hours of practice were needed to create that one special unique piece of art. I’m not sure if the art patron ended up buying the cafe napkin from Picasso. I hope he did.
