Face to face 2 is one of three paintings in this series that was born during lockdown in Melbourne. Explorations of the world was limited to virtual and my attention was drawn to a mirrored image of myself on the face of my digital screen. . This idea of self reflection mirroring the physical inspired experimentation with glass.
For me it was a natural progression from computer painting and the process of reverse painting offered a great sense… of freedom and excitement of exploring a new media. My painting, series Face to face is painted on glass and continues my exploration of colour, abstraction and spatial composition.
Wendy Grace holds an Honours degree in Painting from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. An accomplished Australian artist renowned for her vibrant abstract compositions, command of colour and instinctive grasp of spatial relationships. Her artworks are deeply influenced by nature and urban dynamics, as she seeks to push the boundaries of her work to find new ways to convey meaning and emotion. She says of Abstract painting that, “she is able to use everyday experiences and encounters with people and the environment in her work, to create a space to explore pathways to the imaginary,” offering the viewer a dynamic interplay of colour and pattern.
