Sense of touch is important for us human beings, not only because it helps us to avoid injuries, but it is necessary for our brain's chemical balance.
When embraced our brains produce oxytocin, a hormone/neurotransmitter responsible for human bonding. This neuropeptide helps to regulate our emotional responses, pro-social behaviours, including trust, empathy, gazing, positive memories and communication.
For infants healthy levels of oxytocin in… mothers are crucial to their survival as it regulates not only bonding but also milk production.
