About this artwork
I used textured oil with heavy impasto knifestrokes. The composition is filled with swirls and layers of vibrant, blended colours, creating a sense of movement. The dominant colours range from soft pinks and purples to greens, yellows, and blues, suggesting a natural scene, perhaps a garden or landscape, though the abstract nature makes it open to interpretation.
The knifestrokes are thick and dynamic, allowing the texture of the paint to come through,… giving this painting depth. The colours are not clearly defined but seem to merge into one another, with soft transitions between the shades. I used a mixture of light and dark tones to create balance and contrast, adding complexity to the seemingly organic composition. The overall mood feels calm, yet the lively color palette and energetic brushstrokes provide an element of dynamism.
« Art is an adventure full of mystery, frustration and profound joy. I am continuously torn between despair and elation. »
Wietzie’s abstract work is part of the Expressionist movement. She currently lives and works in France.
Her work explores the meeting place between memory and landscape, where form dissolves into colour and texture becomes a language of its own. Inspired by the shifting light and organic rhythms of nature, she paints not to replicate a scene, but to evoke its essence—the way it feels rather than how it looks.
Through layered brushwork and a palette that moves between tranquil blues, luminous aquas, and blossoming pinks, reds, oranges, she creates spaces that hover between abstraction and impression. Each painting is an invitation to wander—a place where boundaries blur, light filters softly through imagined foliage, and colour drifts like petals on water.
She works in dialogue with texture, letting impasto strokes catch and scatter the light, so that the surface of the canvas mirrors the layered complexity of the natural world.
