About this artwork
In the series 'Traces' I retrace my steps, visit again the places I have been to in the past. When I was seventeen, I lived with family in South-America for some time. It was a period in which I experienced a great feeling of freedom. By making this work of art I revisited that period and the places where I have been. Also, making it was a process of literally making traces in slabs of lead, that I used to make prints the way an etching is printed.…
Working with lead as a material allows me to make prints that have a unique quality.
I have divided the image into parts, made prints of each part, and joined them later to become the complete image again. Each version is therefor different. In this version, the ink was carefully removed and left on other parts of the printing plates during printing in order to create a unique work of art.
