About this artwork
The work explores the transition between stillness and movement, between limitation and openness. Using acrylic, charcoal, and oil pastel, powerful fields of color and fragmented figures emerge, making a state of transformation visible. The expressively dynamic application of paint lends the composition an energetic density and rhythmic tension.
The shadowy figures in the background allude to the complexity of contemporary life, where proximity… and distance, presence and dissolution intertwine. The skull in the lower right serves as a symbol of transience and transformation. Through the use of reflective colors, its function changes: under blue light – a symbol of rescue and new beginnings – it disappears completely.
This creates a work that relates movement, light, and meaning. It explores how reality shifts with changing lighting – and how new interpretations emerge in the process of becoming visible and invisible.
"Painting means spontaneously following a gut feeling – an inner force that urges unbridled creation. It is a journey into the unknown, on which the dialogue with the painting already begins."
This is how Wirbelart describes her intuitive working method. By overpainting emotionally charged reds with layers of acrylic, oil pastel, and charcoal, she creates intricate human forms. She then highlights individual figures from the mass, bringing them into focus.
Her central theme is humanity – the individual who stands out from the norm and engages in relationships with others. She is particularly fascinated by the color red: powerful, deep, and full of emotion, like the embers of a fire. Her works are moving and thought-provoking – movement creates art, art creates movement.
Further training at the HBK Saar and the European Art Academy Trier shaped her work. She is a member of the artist collective Artfactory-Graz in Austria.
