The crucifix shown is about the drama of Christian martyrdom on the cross. The creation of the artwork goes back to 2012. In the course of a church commission, various sketches and model drafts were created, including this preliminary work, which was already drawn up in original size. The sculpture was first modeled in clay and then cast in plaster of paris with a lost mold. This was followed by reworking with iron oxide and pigments. The body can… be purchased with or without a cross. The height of the free-standing cross construction is 296 cm in height and 140 cm in width. A steel plate with 85 X 70 cm allows it to be set up anywhere in the room. A threaded rod on the back of the plastic also enables a form of presentation, for example on a wall.
« For me, the sculpture is the enthusiasm that inanimate material begins to speak out of itself through deformation alone and suddenly belongs to a part of the living world. »
Wolfgang Eckert is a sculptor based in Germany whose works have been exhibited both nationally and in France. Fascinated by the connection between plastic-spatial relationships and the human expression that becomes evident in them, his pieces are an "observation of nature and exploration of individuality". In addition, Eckert's pieces are self-reflective and inspired by his memories. His diverse compositions are created using cement and plaster.
