About this artwork
The planets painted by the artist have the characteristics of the terraque globe that we inhabit, but the conformity of the emerged lands does not entirely reflect those of our planet, nor any of the many phases which have followed one another during the millennia of continental drift . We could then think that the artist, poetically, wants to allude to a different world; to the desire to flee this dimension to join an "island that does not exist".…
On the contrary, it requires us to carefully observe our planet and the laws that govern its movement. In its canvases, the cut shapes that evoke the coasts of lakes, oceans or seas, do not describe a paradisiacal habitat, but appear as silhouettes of soldiers.
Vantaggi, seals some symbols of modern imperialism which inexorably refer to the idea of globalizing colonialism and the claim to impose the (pre) determined concepts of "democracy" and "freedom".

« A painting is a dreaming machine because it is first and foremost a thinking machine. »
Xavier Vantaggi, a multidisciplinary artist based in France, whose diverse works focus on three themes: the time to look, the time to understand, and the time to conclude. He describes his paintings as "empty of any presence and of a decisive moment". Vantaggi's light-stripped compositions are created using mixed techniques and are enhanced with pastels, he also employs acrylics and oils on canvas or wood.
