About this artwork
Asked about the source of inspiration for this image, Xenia explained it in these words: “The beauty of the male body, the quality of him being so picturesque and sculpturesque and having alive eyes”. Xenia chooses the coloristic manner depending on the meaning of the painting—she uses the creative experience of Nicolai Fechin as her source of inspiration. Fechin also admired the beauty of the human body in its earthy eroticism, at the same time…
diluting the clothes and the background into an assortment of color and brush strokes which aimed at accentuating the emotional side of the plastic form. Xenia delights in admiring not so much Michael’s beauty, but his erotic, sensual aesthetic: both the cola can in his hand and the area of his body where it is held accentuate even more the chthonic masculine aspect. A man serves here as a source of inspiration for female creativity. This painting is dedicated to the aesthetics of the masculine aspect, to manhood.

« Art is the poetry of blots and lines, the song of colors. Anyone may hear it if he or she were to look closer. »
Xenia Prokhorova is a prize-winning Russian painter who has exhibited her works nationally, as well as in the United States. The dialectic nature of existence, individuality, the quest for intimacy, and the revelation of the human character are important themes in her art. Prokhorova believes that a person’s inner character is expressed through their unique and specific body mobility. Her meta-expressionist compositions create an environment consisting of sharp angles and unusual perspectives, uneven paintbrush strokes, and structured decorative patterns.
