About this artwork
A great admirer of Jean-Michel Basquiat's work, this canvas was inspired by my visit to the artist's retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris in 2010 and 2011. The marked faces, distorted, aggressive, with times dead and alive while bright colors of his monumental works show a singular and intriguing universe. The strength of his paintings haunted me for a long time after this major exhibition. The result of my work of analysis and digestion…

Yannick Diraison transcribes his emotions through painting. The French musician and painter associates his art with music, which has been an essential part of his life since childhood. As Diraison's paintings have become more abstract in nature, so too has his music. Using mixed techniques, he creates using acrylics, oils, oil pastels, charcoal, raw pigments, and resin on canvas or linen.
