About this artwork
This evocative study of tenderness focuses on the expressive power of hands—our primary tools for touching and feeling the world. In this piece, I capture a precise moment where the physical body meets the 'invisible.' Deeply rooted in my experience with performance art, this work seeks to translate the tension of a live gesture into a lasting visual meditation. The painting explores the essence of a touch that finds no surface, revealing the profound…
beauty hidden within our most vulnerable moments. Executed with realistic precision, it finds its strength in the subtle gesture and concentrated gaze, balanced by a minimalist palette of deep dark blue and luminous light tones.
Through refined technique and delicate tonal shifts, the piece transcends a mere study of the figure; it is a portrait of a feeling—one of connection, memory, and the quiet weight of being present. It invites the viewer to navigate the threshold between their own inner sanctuary and the external world.

« I work with painting, performance art, installation, and dance. I'm interested in the research of spaces with human presence and looking for situations that reveal dual reality and ambiguity. »
Yaryna Shumska is a multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges the gap between performance and abstract painting, creating what she calls an "archive of action."
She is a prize-winning Ukrainian artist whose works have been widely exhibited on a national level, as well as in Poland, France, Spain and the United States. Her artistic geography is truly global, ranging from the Venice International Performance Art Week and Tokyo to Bangkok, Barcelona, and the Arctic Action in Svalbard. A significant place in her practice is occupied by abstract painting from the 2008–2020 period, which served as a foundation for exploring the canvas as a space for "inhabiting" action. In these works, color and texture function not merely as visual elements, but as mediums for internal rhythm and energy. These canvases laid the groundwork for her current practice, where painting is transformed into a direct imprint of physical presence.
