When creating this painting Young thought about the idea of emergence - something about to be born into existence like a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis. Thus, the appearance of delicacy, transparency, as well as revealing strength in this painting was important to her. In terms of process, she first layered paper, glued them together, then peeled them off; this process was carried out very delicately and patiently in order to reveal danger…
and caution that exist simultaneously during the time of birth.
