About this artwork
Mimicry in nature is a protective mechanism. Some species imitate plants or other animals.
We humans also use mimicry to adapt and blend in. We mimic others to meet expectations, to fit in.
Two people are sitting very close, leaning on each other. Their bodies seem to be merging together. No boundaries, one organism, one fear of separation. Their skin is covered in camouflage of sorts. They are hiding from the vast world in their union. Thick darkness… surrounds them. And only the stars are glowing in the distance. But it’s a cold light, it doesn’t give you hope. So they hold on to each other, even though they are looking in different directions. And the ground beneath them is melting away…
They will hold on, they will stay together. And even if they eventually disintegrate into the surroundings - they are one.

Using acrylics and mixed media, rooted in her experience from a Moscow art school, Yulia Ani translates her unique vision onto canvas. Combining abstraction with figurative elements, her style embraces expressionist deformities to evoke emotional resonance. She orchestrates a vulnerable dialogue, bridging dramatic color and gesture to translate the profound connections between our inner and outer worlds.
