About this artwork
Spielensucht (a newly coined word combining spielen- to play and Sucht- addiction) captures the emotional friction between a yearning for playful chaos and a simultaneous longing for peace and structure. Created as part of my Coalescence series, this painting visualizes the layered inner state of wanting to stay joyful and expressive, even when the external world demands control, resilience, and order.
Spielensucht reflects the tension of navigating… conflicting impulses: to remain playful in difficult times without falling into disarray; to embrace structure without abandoning spontaneity. It is not about resolution but about holding these states together, however imperfectly, in a fragile emotional balance.
Painted with acrylic and oil on canvas.
H: 100 cm, L: 120 cm
Using acrylics and mixed media, rooted in her experience from a Moscow art school, Yulia Ani translates her unique vision onto canvas. Combining abstraction with figurative elements, her style embraces expressionist deformities to evoke emotional resonance. She orchestrates a vulnerable dialogue, bridging dramatic color and gesture to translate the profound connections between our inner and outer worlds.
