About this artwork
The series reflects on how relationships today are treated like consumer products, driven by the illusion of infinite choice through dating apps and social media. The ease of swiping and discarding matches fosters superficial connections, where romantic expectations clash with reality. Through semi-abstract, absurd portraits, I explore these contradictions and the emotional weight behind them, capturing the fears and frustrations that arise when… relationships become disposable. Alongside these portraits, I’ve included abstract pieces, using bold colors and energetic forms to express the emotional weight behind these experiences. They’re about desire, disappointment, and that sense of disillusionment we all face when reality doesn’t quite match our expectations.
Using acrylics and mixed media, rooted in her experience from a Moscow art school, Yulia Ani translates her unique vision onto canvas. Combining abstraction with figurative elements, her style embraces expressionist deformities to evoke emotional resonance. She orchestrates a vulnerable dialogue, bridging dramatic color and gesture to translate the profound connections between our inner and outer worlds.
