I started working on the Calligraphy series in 1998.
The art of calligraphy has always fascinated me by combining the certainty, sometimes literalness of a statement with the freedom of formal embodiment, which allows one not only to break away from the unambiguity of the text, but in its freedom of transformations of forms - up to abstract constructions - to create a new “metatext”, which is detached from the original meanings and gets new meanings.…
When photographing quite familiar objects, such as shells and plants, I try to see and depict in them not only photographic literalness, protocol, but also new pictorial meanings, new experiences of forms, which often receive an independent, unrelated to the original object, aesthetic meaning.

Yuri Brodsky, dedicated to photography, comes from Cologne. He combines analogue and digital techniques to transform everyday objects into poetic compositions that challenge the limits of the visible. His style is experimental and creative; he presents the familiar in a new light and invites the viewer to recognize the deeper emotional-symbolic expressiveness of his works.
