"This painting originated from studies in drawing on a 50 x 65 cm canvas. Singular forms float in a uniform aquatic background. The matte finish of the cardboard interests me because it is reminiscent of tempera painting (I don't particularly like gloss). They extend into cone-like shapes. The yellow areas enliven these dreamlike formations."
The upper part was completed first: I then looked for a way to anchor them, hence the idea of associating… them with these cone-like shapes. The maritime inspiration is not far removed: octopuses, corals, mosses, etc."
Yves Minssart, painter, draftsman, and sculptor, draws on his background as an architect and his passion for art history to explore primarily drawing, metal engraving, and sculpture, while grounding his approach in a profound experience of minimalism influenced by Zen. His style combines abstraction, dreamlike imagery, and subtle textures, sketching plays of rhythm and bare forms reminiscent of surrealist universes. His work invites contemplation of enigmatic spaces, revealing solitude, fragility, and the sensitive search for a place in the world.
