About this artwork
I decided that I would recreate this artwork that was previously stolen ,with its female pair, with the new concept of the collection I am currently planning on.
I wanted to merge the modern Arab man to the past and convey to the audience the vulnerability as well as the strength in his portrait. Which is what I believe the Arab masculinity portrays. I am happy to see the traditional values of Arab masculinity being changed into a more softer view… in the new generation.
The portrait is of a Bedouin man that is wearing the traditional Arabic robe. To convey the modern man, I structured the robe in random geometrical shapes, as well as painting the rest in a modern style.
I believe modern masculinity is a lot more complicated and not straightforward as previously thought. It's a lot of contrasts of hard traditions mixed with liberal feelings, which translate into many complexes and contrasts. I believe modern masculinity should be compassionate and very complex.
