About this artwork
Charlie Chaplin's portrait was done in oil paint in the early years of my career as a professional artist. My father had recently passed away and I decided to dedicate several paintings in his name and Charlie became the first one.
My father shaped my childhood and he introduced me to Charlie's films when I was a child. Even as an adult we would watch his movies and marvel at Chaplin's comedic genius.
I specifically used oil paint to capture… the intense comic and sad expression that Charlie was famous for. No other medium would have done it justice.
I also used my favourite colour pallet of yellow ochre and blue and kept it to minimal colours so that you do not lose the intensity of the portrait.
Charlie has become on of my all time favourite portraits I have ever done and it has great personal value to me as it reminds me of my late father's also comic genius who made everybody laugh around him.
