About this artwork
This piece is of a very famous Lebanese composer, songwriter, playwright, and the son of the legend Lebanese singer fairuz.
This piece is dedicated to my late father and Ziad Rahbani was a figure he adored that exposed Lebanese culture, society and the civil war in a very satirical and controversial ways. I grew up listening to his satirical songs and came to adore him just as much as his mother Fairuz, who is my muse as I have painted and drew… her many times.
The style I adopted early on as an artist was of minimal detail with monochromatic colour with an abstract background. However, in contrast I relied heavily on realism when it came to the face of the subject. This style continues with the Ziad piece and still continues with my portraits.
The extreme worlds of realism and abstract resonates with who I am as an artist and the sense of identity I want to convey to the audience.
