About this artwork
A classical chestnut Arabian horse is posed in profile exhibiting its proportions in a classical manner.
This ancient breed is shown in a dramatic abstracted directional light. Echoes of the studies of George Stubbs (1724-1806) are brought forward to a more contemporary combination of colour and light.

« I'm dedicated and obsessive with the mark making procedure - the descriptive elements of figurative painting when paint becomes optical form. »
Zil Hoque is a British painter with an abounding fascination for the Spanish culture. Working principally in oils, Hoque combines delicate and loose figurative expressionist techniques to capture the essential elements of his subjects. Each subject tends to be on a neutral background, focusing the observer’s eye on the unwinding drama. Indeed, for Hoque, it’s often what he chooses to omit from a painting that emphasizes its key message.
