Chair - curated by Natalie Slater

A curation by Natalie Slater, Art Agent at Snap Collective - 'Chair' is a curation centered on a single, familiar object — returned to again and again, without hierarchy or narrative. Across painting, digital works, and mixed media, the chair appears isolated, cropped, distorted, or carefully staged. Sometimes it anchors the space. Sometimes it feels incidental. In a few works, it barely holds together as a chair at all. What connects these works isn’t style or medium, but attention. The chair becomes something to look at rather than something to use. Its presence shifts depending on context — quiet, awkward, formal, domestic, uneasy, or oddly optimistic. There’s no attempt to romanticize the object. These works don’t turn chairs into symbols so much as they slow them down. What’s usually overlooked is made visible, if only temporarily. A chair, removed from function, becomes image. Nothing more. Nothing less.
